How can I convince people that I’m not just making a movie about Detroit to be ‘relevant?’ That most of my film and acting career was born in/around that city without trying to seem ‘popular?’

My Dad: How do you know France exists?
Me: I saw it on a map.
My Dad: So?
Me: Well, lots of other people say it's there.
My Dad: Have you ever gone on a plane, and stepped onto the soil, and looked up at the Eiffel Tower yourself?
Me: No.
